摘要：

Stimulation of the septal area of the brain caused deceleration of heart rate in rats when unanesthetized and under nembutal anesthesia. Following bilateral vagotomy the decelerative effect disappeared and some slight acceleration became apparent. This finding suggested that the slowing of heart rate was probably due to activation of parasympathetic fibers. The hypothesis was entertained that autonomic functions were represented independently at any locus of stimulation, and that individual cells probably exhibited idiosynchratic patterns of autonomic activation. © 1969.
