摘要
A hydrodynamic numerical model developed in polar coordinates derives the tidal characteristics around an island. Due to the frictional torque over the sloping topography, four residual eddies are generated showing that lateral viscosity and flow separation are not necessary to generate island eddies. The effect of the Earth's rotation produces small asymmetries in the derived tidal distributions and residual clockwise (in the northern hemisphere) vorticity in the shallow waters near the island. © 1979, Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom.
