DUST CYLINDERS IN STATIC SPACETIMES

We argue that the work of Vishveshwara and Winicour suggests that there is an upper limit to the linear mass densities of infinite cylinders in static, cylindrically symmetric spacetimes. We investigate the class of static cylinders having two oppositely directed circular flows of dust, and show that the above conjecture is true for these cylinders. © 1980 American Institute of Physics.
