OSCILLATORY ELECTRODISSOLUTION OF METALS

A brief overview of some recent work on oscillatory behavior of electrochemical reactions, particularly electrodissolution of metals, is given. The emphasis is on the dynamics of the systems although some discussion is also given on the surface conditions of the electrodes and the relationship between these conditions and the types of dynamics observed. The latter include simple periodic oscillations, quasiperiodicity, chaos, bifurcations among states, and spatial structure. Examples are chosen from the electrodissolution of iron, cobalt, copper, and nickel.
