Photographs are taken for the crystallites and grain boundaries in the ordered colloidal crystals of monodispersed polystyrene spheres by four methods, (1) using a metallurgical microscope with a standard illumination device, (2) a metallurgical microscope with diagonal illumination, (3) a polarized metallurgical microscope, and (4) close-up photographing. The size of the crystallites is 100-200 mu m and increases as the concentration of spheres decreases, which is consistent with the results from the deflection spectrum measurements.
