The heat capacity of a gem-quality mineralogical sample of grossular: Ca3Al2Si3O12 has been determined by equilibrium adiabatic-shield calorimetry from 5 through 600 K and adjusted to the stoichiometric terminal-component grossular by a new entropy-adjustment scheme delineated in the paper. At 298.15 K the observed values of Cp, So, {Ho(T)-Ho(0)} T, and -{Go(T)-Ho(0)} T are 79.00, 61.61, 37.92, and 23.69 calth K-1 mol-1. The entropy adjusted to terminal component grossular is 60.88 calth K-1 mol-1. The results are combined with higher-temperature differential-scanning calorimetric values of Perkins et al. and of Robie et al. to provide thermodynamic values over greatly extended ranges of temperature. © 1979.
