Three cases of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with aortic insufficiency are presented. One patient had Libman‐Sacks endocarditis at necropsy. Another had aortitis and pancarditis. The third had a fenestrated aortic valve showing mucoid degeneration, similar to the lesions described in Marfan's syndrome and the “floppy valve” syndrome, and had a successful insertion of a prosthetic valve. Two patients with subcutaneous “rheumatoid nodules” had persistently negative latex fixation tests. Copyright © 1969 American College of Rheumatology
