Studied temporal parameters of conditioned hypoglycemia in 111 albino Wistar rats. 2 conditioning trials were necessary to produce a significant CR if an olfactory cue, menthol, was part of the CS; 6 trials were required without menthol. The magnitude of the CR also was greater with the olfactory cue than without. The glycemic response to insulin (the UCR) peaked 80 min. after injection, whereas the CR to a saline injection peaked near 20 min. The CR followed the time course of the UCR for a period of time that was increased by the presence of menthol.
