IRRADIATION INDUCED LOW TEMPERATURE VOLUME EXPANSION OF KCI AND KBR

摘要
The macroscopic volume expansions caused by relaxations around Frenkel defects produced by X-irradiation at 80°K and 6°K have been measured. For KC1 and KBr the 80°K data give a relaxation for the F-centre Frenkel pair of the order of that previously determined for F-centre alone, indicating that the relaxation around the neutral interstitial is small. In contrast to this, the 6°K measurements indicate a relaxation around the negative ion interstitial of the same order as that associated with the α-centre. © 1968.
