THE SPONTANEOUS BIREFRINGENCE AND PYROELECTRIC EFFECT IN KTIOPO4 CRYSTALS

摘要
Results on studies of spontaneous birefringence and pyroelectric properties of KTiOPO4 crystals have been presented for a wide temperature range. KTiOPO4 crystals have been shown to be ferroelectrics below 1165K, the ferroelectric phase transition being of the second order. Based on pyroelectric studies at low temperature, it has been found that the essential contribution to the spontaneous polarization is from the crystal lattice optical vibrations at an effective wave number of 120cm-1. It has also been shown that in high-ionic-conductivity ferroelectrics and pyroelectrics, a new physical phenomenon occurs-namely, an off-pyroelectric current generation. © 1990.
