HYPERFINE STRUCTURES IN THE ROTATIONAL SPECTRA OF THIONYLIMIDE, HNSO, AND THIONYLIMIDE-D, DNSO

Two rotational transitions each of thionylimide, HNSO, and thionylimide-d, DNSO, have been recorded with a cavity microwave Fourier transform spectrometer. The hyperfine structures caused by nitrogen and deuterium quadrupole coupling, and by proton magnetic coupling, have been resolved. From the variation in the nitrogen quadrupole coupling constants with isotopomer, the angular position of the nitrogen coupling tensor has been determined and has been shown almost to coincide with the bisector of the HNS angle. Furthermore, the coupling constants of deuterium have been obtained with high precision and are in accordance with theoretical data derived from ab initio calculations. © 1993 Academic Press, Inc.
