摘要
Single crystals of barium sodium niobate have been evaluated for use in optical devices. Passive tests were developed that would permit evaluation of the device potential of crystals prior to the final expensive fabrication and coating process. Optical microscopy can be used for the detection of gross defects; however, probing the crystal with a very small diffraction-limited laser beam shows even small index of refraction variations and scatter. These and other tests are correlated with growth conditions and with actual device performance. © 1969.
