摘要
The monoterpene and diterpene components of the soldier defence secretion of the nasute termite Grallatotermes africanus (Harris) (Isoptera: Termitidae: Nasutitermitinae) have been identified by microspectrometric methods. The diterpenes possess the tricyclic trinervitane and tetracyclic kempane skeletons commonly found among soldiers of over 20 species of Nasutitermes and Trinervitermes. The composition of the G. africanus defence secretion lends support to the placement of the genus on the Procornitermes-Nasutitermes phyletic branch of the Nasutitermitinae. © 1979.
