UPTAKE AND INCORPORATION INTO PROTEIN OF [3H]TYROSINE BY SLICES PREPARED FROM DEVELOPING RAT BRAIN CORTEX

The uptake and incorporation into protein of [3H]tyrosine was studied with brain cortex slices prepared from rats: 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30 days old, and adults 3-4 months old. In oxygen the rate of uptake increased while the rate of incorporation decreased with increasing age of the experimental animals. The greatest change occurred at the age of 2 weeks. During anaerobic incubation some radioactivity was still incorporated into protein in brain slices from immature animals but in adults the abilities to concentrate the label and incorporate it into protein were lost. © 1969.
