摘要
Most friction models are based on the Coulomb law which establishes a linear relation between tangential and normal contact stresses. The generality of that law has often been questioned but little satisfactory experimental evidence exists from which a more "general" model can be formulated. Based on experimental evidence, this paper shows how the velocity between two rubbing surfaces is accommodated within the contact. Five sites and four modes have been identified leading to the definition of 5 × 4 or 20 velocity accommodation mechanisms. Tests show that more than one mechanism can exist at one and the same time and that mechanisms can vary along the contact and also with time. © 1990.
