Autumn migrant Garden Warblers in southern Portugal were found feeding extensively on figs, and such birds were heavier than others taking alternative foods. Hence figs were considered important for the rapid deposition of migratory fat, required for the Saharan crossing. © 1979 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
