2D GEOMETRICAL MODEL OF THE DECAGONAL PHASE - TILING UNITS AND FORMATION

摘要
A two-dimensional geometrical model is proposed to explain the formation of the structure units of the decagonal quasicrystal. The heart of this model is that clusters are multiplied by tenfold twinning operations. The basic inter-cluster configurations are two Robinson triangles from which a series of polygon units can be generated. Some units form a group of 'polymorphous' approximants that keep the same cluster structures of their corresponding quasicrystals. A further description of the cluster structure by applying similar twinning operations on the CsCl phase was tried.
