Facile preparative methods for the cycloplatination of benzo[c]quinoline (1), two Schiff's base tetralone compounds, R1N = C(CH2)3C6H4 (R1 = cyclohexyl (2), CH2(p-C6H4OCH3) (3)), and 8-methyl-quinoline (4), are given. An extension of these methods leads readily to new cycloplatination chemistry involving use of 1 or 3 or quinoline-8-carboxaldehyde and the cycloplatinated phosphite complex [Pt(mu-Cl){(R2O)2POC6H4]]2, R2 = Et, Ph, to give the complexes Pt(NO3)(C N){P(OPh)(OR)2}, where C N denotes the cycloplatinated nitrogen-ligand. The molecular structure of PtCl{(cyclohexyl) N = C(CH2)3C6H3](CO) has been determined by X-ray diffraction.
