EFFECTS OF TH-DOPING ON THE ANOMALOUS LOW-TEMPERATURE PROPERTIES OF LA2-XBAXCUO4

Study of low-temperature lattice instabilities and superconductivity in Th-doped La2-xBaxCuO4, La2-y-xThyBaxCuO4, revealed that a low-temperature tetragonal (TLT) phase and sharp suppression of T(c) are most prominent at x - y congruent-to 0.125, instead of x congruent-to 0.125. Therefore, the anomalous low-temperature behavior is essentially controlled by the carrier concentration, rather than local ionic forces.
