摘要
Krypton ions have been subplanted into graphite at kinetic energies between 45 and 150 eV. The ion doses were applied in several steps, from approximately 1 x 10(14) ions/cm2 up to approximately 1.5 x 10(15) ions/cm2, and electron induced KrMNN and LMM and CKLL Auger spectra were recorded at various stages. These LMM spectra are, to the best of our knowledge, the first to be reported for krypton in a solid phase. Features in the Auger spectra in the region 20-50 eV, which are related to the symmetry of the graphite lattice, have been observed. The subplanted Kr Auger spectrum is compared to spectra of gaseous, adsorbed, and crystalline Kr. The results are analyzed in terms of the state of subplanted Kr and deformation of the graphite layers. A molecular modeling simulation has been used to characterize the structure of the subplanted Kr/graphite system. The results suggest a mechanism for formation of dense phases during subplantation resulting from low energy ion bombardment.
