摘要
A force model for a single-point tool with the chamfered main cutting edge was proposed in this present study which could consequently result in tools being manufactured which produce a built-up edge (BUE). Special tool holders and their geometrical configuration were designed and are discussed in the initial stages of this paper. The tool holders were milled using medium-carbon steel bars and these holders with the mounting tips were ground to fit various specifications. The experimental results correlated closely with the theoretical values predicted by the model. Cutting experiments were conducted on stainless steel and carbon steel for studying the mechanism of the secondary chip; in addition, the ideal tool geometrical configurations of the relationship between the shapes of the secondary chip and tool geometries were observed.
