STRUCTURE OF COUNTERFLOW DIFFUSION FLAME IN TRANSVERSE ELECTRIC-FIELDS

An interferometric study of counterflow diffusion flame has been found to yield the complete thermoaerodynamic data in the combustion zone both with and without electric fields. The volumetric heat-release profiles thus calculated show significant changes on the application of electric fields. The results point out the possibilities of altered course of fuel pyrolysis and changes in the concentration profiles of the reacting species, leading to modifications in combustion kinetics and generation of negative ions. A qualitative explanation of the observations in terms of the well-established flame reactions has been included. © 1979.
