After defining “recurrent” and “alternating” palsies, we reviewed the literature regarding frequency, etiology and pathogenesis of relapsing Bell's palsy. We described a series of 46 patients with two or three attacks. The distribution of frequency, age, sex, and intervals, as well as the prognosis of the attacks, were analyzed. Special attention was given to the problem of recurrences after surgical decompression of the nerve. The conclusion was reached that a wellperformed decompression prevents recurrent palsies. © 1969, SAGE Publications. All rights reserved.
