INTERCHROMOPHORIC INTERACTIONS IN IONIC 1,NORMAL-DICARBAZOLYLALKANES

摘要
The radical cations of 1,n-di-N-carbazolylalkanes 1-5 (n = 1-5) were generated by flash photolysis of electron donor-acceptor complexes of tetranitromethane and 1-5. The carbazole radical cations combine in a second-order process with nitrogen dioxide released by dissociative electron capture by tetranitromethane. The kinetics and transient absorption spectra of the radical cations indicate appreciable interaction between two pendent carbazole groups separated by n = 1, 3, or 4 methylene units, supported in the case of 1 by a single-crystal X-ray determination. © 1990 American Chemical Society.
