Small angle neutron scattering measurements have been performed on liquid Ag-Ge alloys; they lead to an 'abnormal' k-dependent small angle scattering. The experimental differential coherent scattering cross section at k=0 is in disagreement with the theoretical value. This shows that the k-dependent small angle scattering cannot be interpreted in terms of density and concentration fluctuations of a classical binary liquid alloy. As a consequence, an alternative analysis which is based on scattering by heteroatomic chains is proposed. The model is consistent with the thermodynamic properties of the liquid Ag-Ge alloys.
