ROTATIONAL-DYNAMICS OF C-60(4-) AND ELECTRONIC EXCITATION IN RB4C60

摘要
10% C-13 enriched Rb4C60 was investigated by C-13 NMR. The relaxation rates T-1(-1) and T-2(-1) are basically determined by reorientation of the C-60(4-) molecules. In addition, T-1(-1) exhibits an activated electronic contribution with activation energy 104 meV. The same activation energy is also found in Knight-shift measurements. Both compounds, Rb4C60 and K4C60, exhibit the same electronic excitation with the same activation energy within experimental error. We attribute this to a local excitation into a high-spin state of the Jahn-Teller distorted C-60(4-).
