ELECTRON-CAPTURE TO D3- AND D30 REPULSIVE STATES BY D3+ IN CS

摘要
Differential cross sections for the production of D- and D0 + D20 + D30 are given for electron-capture collisions into D3- and D30 repulsive states by bombardment of Cs with D3+ ions in the energy range 1.5-7.5 keV. A theory is presented for the angular distributions of dissociation fragments in the special cases in which the dissociation (i) produces two fragments, or (ii) produces three fragments, one of which has a small energy in the molecular center-of-mass frame. In both cases a scaling law is predicted: (nEi)-1 d nd=f(nEi, n2), where d nd is the differential cross section for finding fragment n at angle, Ei is the incident energy, and n is a mass ratio. The D- distributions are observed to fit this scaling law. Peaks are found in both the D- and D0 + D20 + D30 distributions for which 12Ei, 215 keV deg2 and 14 keV deg2, respectively. A corresponding peak is also found in the neutral distribution for which 2Ei, 214 keV deg2. The peaks indicate a repulsive state in D3- which decays into D- + D20, and a repulsive state in D30 which decays into D0 + D20 and which has an energy surface close to that of the D3- repulsive state. An energy surface of a repulsive singlet state of D3- is presented which does decay into D- and D20. © 1979 The American Physical Society.
