摘要
The merits of activated carbon (AC) for removal of organic compounds from water have been well documented, but the potential for enrichment of heavy metals has received little attention in the literature on water analysis. A combination of multielement chelation by 8-hydroxyquinoline with subsequent adsorption on activated carbon was developed for trace metal preconcentration. Adsorption characteristics of 8-quinolinol and metal quinolates on activated carbon were investigated in order to optimize the enrichment procedure. Interferences from alkali and alkaline earth ions were minimized and working conditions for preconcentration from very differing samples were calculated. For about 20 elements simultaneously an enrichment factor of 10 000, precision of 5 to 10%, and a recovery from 85 to 100% are demonstrated.
