Marlies and Rolf Teichmuller worked together throughout most of their professional careers, and their scientific research was so intimately intertwined that it was impossible to adequately consider one without the other. For many years prior to Rolf's death in 1983, the Teichmullers entertained at their house, distinguished scientific visitors from their homeland and abroad, and they kept a greeting and signature book of these visits; their gracious hospitality and friendly manner were always remembered by visitors who sometimes returned for other visits. This paper covers the interplay between Rolf, the structural geologist, and Marlies, the coal petrologist. Updated information on Marlies' distinguished career was also added.
