摘要
1. 1. Potent chitinolytic activity associated specifically with the saliva from the posterior salivary glands of the octopus Eledone cirrhosa is described. 2. 2. Comparison of chitinase and protease activities, relative to total protein concentration of the saliva, suggests different modes of synthesis for these enzymes. 3. 3. The significance and possible role of salivary chitinases in octopus feeding behaviour are discussed. © 1990.
