摘要
The generation of hydroxyl radicals by the xanthine-xanthine oxidase reaction is increased by Fe-saturated lactoferrin isolated from pig neutrophils. Hydroxy radical production, measured by EPR spin trapping and by ethylene production from .alpha.-keto-.gamma.-methiol butyric acid, is produced by a Fenton-type Haber-Weiss reaction catalyzed by lactoferrin. The possibility that lactoferrin catalyzes such a reaction in vivo is considered.
