MIXED PHOSPHORUS(III) PHOSPHORUS(V) OXIDE CHALCONIDES

Tetraphosphorus hexaoxide, P4O6, and tetraphosphorus heptaoxide, P4O7, were oxidized by reaction with P4S10 or P4Se10 to extend a class of adamantanoid structures based upon the P4O6 cage. The redistribution reactions of P4O10 with [FORMULA OMMITED] were identified, and all were found to be structural derivatives of the P4O6 cage. Phosphorus-31 chemical shifts are compared and related to available structural information. The reaction of P4O7S to produce P4O6S2 and P4O8 is also discussed. An improved preparation of P4O7 is presented. © 1979, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
