摘要
The effects of variation of the conditions of phase-transfer-catalysed chlorination of poly(4-methylstyrene) using sodium hypochlorite in chloroform/dichloromethane mixtures are investigated. When the reaction is carried out at an aqueous phase pH of 8.5 and using a chloroform-rich organic phase, chlorination is predominantly at the 4-methyl substituent and di-/trichlorination and concomitant modification of the molecular-weight distribution of the polymer are minimal. Kinetic mechanisms compatible with the experimental observations are proposed. © 1990.
