XY-ISING CROSSOVER TRANSITION IN THE ONE-DIMENSIONAL ANTI-FERROMAGNET TMMC - EFFECT OF A MAGNETIC-FIELD

Quasi-elastic neutron scattering experiments have been performed in the one-dimensional antiferromagnet (CD3)4NMnCl3 (TMMC) at low temperature, 1 < T < 10 K, in the presence of a magnetic field, 0 < H < 40 kOe. Our results show that in zero field TMMC is in an XY state for T ≲ 5 K. In a field applied along a direction perpendicular to the chain axis, TMMC undergoes an XY-Ising crossover transition. © 1979.
