ELECTRONIC-STRUCTURES AND TRANSPORT-PROPERTIES IN QUASI-CRYSTALS

摘要
The electronic structures are calculated for approximant crystals of icosahedral quasicrystals, i-AlMn and i-AlLiCu. The density of states shows, commonly, a pseudogap at the Fermi energy. The cause of the pseudogap is attributed to the electron-lattice interaction known as the Hume-Rothery mechanism. The density of states also has a structure of dense and fine spiky peaks. Anomalous transport properties of quasicrystals and approximant crystals are discussed based upon the band structures and the Boltzmann theory.
