TUMOR INHIBITORS .35. MYRSINE SAPONIN ACTIVE PRINCIPLE OF MYRSINE AFRICANA L

An alcoholic extract of twigs and leaves of Myrsine africana L. was found to show significant inhibitory activity against the Walker intramuscular carcinosarcoma 256 in rats. Systematic fractionation of this extract led to the isolation of a new saponin as the active principle. The characterization of the active Myrsine saponin as a glycoside of primulagenin A and the sugars glucose, rhamnose, galactose, and glucuronic acid, in the molar. © 1969, American Chemical Society.
