Hyams, L and A. Loop (Division of Epidemiology, American Health Foundation, 180 East End Aye., New York, N.Y. 10028). The epidemiology of myocardial infarction at two age levels. Amer. J. Epid., 1969, 90: 93-102.-A retrospective epidemiologic study of myocardial infarction in men was undertaken in several hospitals of New York City during 1966-1967. Two hundred cases of myocardial infarction and 400 age-sex matched controls were compared emphasizing the differences between these groups at two age strata: under 50, and 50 years and over. It was found that hypercholesterolemia, obesity, a high intensity of cigarette smoking, and a lack of significantly higher systolic blood pressure-characteristics of the younger patient with myocardial infarction-clearly differentiates him from the older coronary thrombotic patient. Common to both age strata were a past history of hypertension, present diastolic elevation and a familial history of the disease. © 1969, by THE JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY.
