摘要
Atmospheric particles collected by sedimentation or filtration have been analyzed by photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The lack of correlation between the results has led us to discern problems of sample composition heterogeneity. Three types of heterogeneity have been noted: localization heterogeneity, thickness heterogeneity, and heterogeneity of particle composition. These effects are emphasized in XPS, which only takes into account the first layers of the samples, in contrast to atomic absorption, which constitutes an overall analysis. © 1979, American Chemical Society.
