Some phenols were also converted into diethyl aryloxymethylphosphonates by incorporation into mixed formals by reaction with 2,4-dichlorophenoxymethyl chloride, followed by Lewis acid-catalysed transfer of an aryloxymethyl group to triethyl phosphite.
