ELECTRON-POLAR-MOLECULE SCATTERING - QUASICLASSICAL CLOSE-COUPLING APPROXIMATION

Quasiclassical close-coupling approximation (QCCA) calculations of elastic and rotationally inelastic cross sections for electron scattering by LiF are presented. The QCCA treats the relative motion degree of freedom quasiclassically thereby incorporating such effects as interference and diffraction. The approximations to the close-coupling method which lead to the time-dependent close-coupling equations for the transition amplitude and to the combination of these amplitudes to form scattering cross sections are outlined. Criteria for the validity of the approximations are described. Comparisons with other calculations and experiments are made.
