摘要
1. 1. The Portuguese man-of-war, Physalia physalis, contains extractable material which absorbs intensely at 310 mμ. 2. 2. The highest 310 mμ absorbance per unit dry weight is found in portions of the float and in the ampullae that synthesize the nematocysts. 3. 3. A pigment, with λmax = 310 mμ (ε{lunate} ∼ 5 × 105) shifting to 298 mμ in strong acid, has been purified from Physalia float autolysate. 4. 4. It contains β-alanine, β-aminoisobutyric acid and probably tryptophan or a derivative thereof. 5. 5. It has a molecular weight of about 1200. © 1969.
