摘要
The photocatalytic transformation of furfuryl alcohol in aqueous ZnO suspensions has been compared with the oxidative conversion of furfuryl alcohol either with the singlet oxygen produced by the excitation of rose bengal or with the hydroxyl radicals formed by the excitation of the NO2- anions. Furfuryl alcohol is essentially converted into 6-hydroxy-(2H)-pyran-3-(6H)-one in the three reactions. A kinetic study carried out at the initial time suggests that hydroxylation resulting from the photoactive pigment occurs in the homogeneous aqueous phase and that singlet oxygen oxidation contributes to the photocatalytic transformation of furfuryl alcohol to a minor extent.
