DIBENZOTHIOPHENE SULFUR CAN SERVE AS THE SOLE ELECTRON-ACCEPTOR DURING GROWTH BY SULFATE-REDUCING BACTERIA

摘要
Three species of Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria (SRB) were able to grow using dibenzothiophene (DBT) as their sole source of sulfur and sole electron acceptor. Desulfotomaculum orientis and Desulfovibrio desulfuricans were grown at 30 degrees C while Thermodesulfobacterium commune was grown at 60 degrees C, in media containing lactate and citrate. Hydrogen sulfide was the product of dissimilatory sulfur reduction.
