SPECTRUM OF GLIDE BAND SOURCES AND WORK-HARDENING IN LIF SINGLE-CRYSTALS

摘要
The dependence of the linear density of glide bands in deformed LiF single crystals on the value τh of the flow stress is measured. A similar dependence of dε/dτ and dnh/dτ on τ is discovered. This similarity means that the stress—strain curve of LiF, τ(ε), is strictly related to the integrated distribution of active glide band sources. A hypothesis on the decisive role of surface elastic self strains of the crystal lattice for dislocation nucleation at small external stresses and on surface defects as a source of nucleation of glide bands is suggested.
