Historical XBT profiles have been processed on a 20 nautical mile (37.1 km) grid to produce a database of surface and bottom temperatures in the northwest European shelf seas. Contour maps are presented that show the monthly distributions of temperature. Maps of the thermocline depth and the vertically well-mixed regions illustrate the seasonal advance and retreat of the major frontal zones.
