The anisotropic superconductivity in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+y is investigated by precision measurements of resistivity and torque as a function of the magnetic field angle in the reversible regime. Scaling of the angular dependences of these quantities with an effective field, H(sin2-theta+gamma-2cos2-theta)1/2, theta being the field angle measured from the basal plane, suggests values of the anisotropy parameter gamma almost-equal-to 200 or larger, which substantially exceeds previous estimates. In the small theta region, the effect of a layer gains importance.
