AN EFFICIENT COMBINATION OF THE BINARY COLLISION APPROXIMATION WITH CLASSICAL DYNAMICS FOR STABLE LOW-ENERGY RADIATION-DAMAGE CALCULATIONS

摘要
A new technique is developed in order to estimate stable low energy radiation damage. It is based on a combination of the binary collision approximation, used to simulate the collisional phase, and quenching classical dynamics with periodic boundary conditions, used to simulate the crystal relaxation. The technique makes the simulation fast enough to collect statistics over sets of events within moderate computer time. The primary energy threshold for Frenkel pair production prior to recovery is estimated as well as the energy dependence of vacancy production. The use of energy thresholds and recombination volumes in the binary collision approximation is discussed in light of the results.
