CLUSTER MODEL OF GLASS-TRANSITION - THE VARIATION OF T(G) WITH CAGE VIBRATIONAL FREQUENCY OF NA+ IONS IN SODIUM BOROVANADATE GLASSES

摘要
The cage vibrational frequencies of Na+ ions in sodium borovanadate glasses have been examined using far-infrared spectroscopy. The glass transition temperature, T(g), is found to vary linearly with the cage vibrational frequency, nu. The variation of nu has been related to the average excess partial charge on the cage oxygen atoms and hence to the force constant. The observed linear variation of T(g) as a function of nu has been rationalized on the basis of the cluster model of glass transition.
