The design computation of a gas cooled cryogenic lead wire through which current is fed into a superconductive magnet in liquid helium is presented. In order to improve on previous work, the temperature of the lead wire and helium gas are treated separately and differential equations are solved between base temperature and ambient temperature. The analysis shows that the assumption in the previous work that the gas temperature follows lead wire temperature is correct as far as finned lead wire is concerned, but the lead wire tip temperature takes on various values according to the lead wire dimensions and cooling conditions and can not be treated as definite. © 1969.
