A discussion is presented of the evolution of a facility, generally called job networking, that permits job-related information to be sent between programming system components operating on computing systems that are attached to a communications network. The capabilities of the programs that implement this facility are described along with the events that led to its development, the value of the facility to the user, and ways in which it can be extended to work with other forms of communication networking.
